Highlander Baseball Update
by Aidan O'Sullivan, 2022
Halfway through the regular season, the Highlanders baseball team stands at 10-2 start (9-1 in the league), riding a strong offense and dominant pitching to second place in the Greater Boston League.
The Highlanders began the season with multiple convincing victories, beating Malden High School 7-0 in the opener before edging defending GBL champions Lynn English 3-2 on the road. Victories over Medford and Everett High School followed before the Highlanders endured their first loss to current first place team Lynn Classical. The Rams will rematch with the Highlanders at Fraser Field on May 16 in a game that will likely have huge implications for the winner of the GBL.
After an 8-6 loss to East Boston, the team won the next five games, including an 8-4 win over Revere that gave them second place in the conference.
On Friday night, May 6, at Trum Field against Malden, they prevailed, 8-2.
On Monday they faced Medford at 4:00 pm at Huskins Field at Tufts University for the first edition of the Tufts Classic, defeating Medford by a score of 6-1. They next play at 4:00 on Friday at Everett.
